ditch,

the poetry that matters

Submission Guidelines

ditch, is a venue primarily for Canadian alternative poets, although we do accept work from International writers.

ditch, publishes work that is non-linear, abstract, surreal, avant-garde, alternative, and/or experimental.

Reads year round.
There is no regular publishing schedule, the site will be updated when new work is ready to be posted.

Submissions:

Previously published work is acceptable.

All submissions must contain a statement to the effect that the submitter is the copyright holder.

Please include a brief bio, publishing history and a picture with your submission, and a link to your website (if available).

(If your bio and picture are already on the Biographies page, you don't need to send it again, unless you want the picture and info updated).

Send the work in the body of an e-mail or, if formatting is important, as an attachment formatted as it should appear on the page to:

                                               [email protected]

If sending an attachment, cut and paste the entire submission into one file (including bio, links, and publishing credits). Pictures or visual poetry may be sent as separate files.

Poetry submissions should not exceed 100 lines - if you use lines in your work! (this isn’t a firm limit, although sometimes less is more).

All files should be compatible with Windows Office programs (Word, Publisher, Picture It, etc.).

ditch, will make every effort to preserve the formatting as submitted.

ditch, reserves electronic publishing rights and first print anthology rights only.

ditch, retains the rights as long as the work remains on the site. Material will be removed from the site at the copyright holder’s request.

Book publishers may submit excerpts (poetry or essays) from books that are forthcoming or are already in print. For book publishers, ditch, reserves first electronic publishing rights only.

Unfortunately, we are unable to pay contributors at this time.

The hard line: don't submit any haiku, formal verse, or mainstream-linear-narrative poetry
- or self-involved "relationship" poems agonizing over your boyfriend/girlfriend or whatever.
